The number of video views on the Czech Internet and time spent watching online videos increased last year. This is shown by the data of the official measurement of the Czech Internet traffic NetMonitor. According to them, the number of video views almost doubled year-on-year and the time spent watching online videos increased by about a third year-on-year.
The significant increase in the number of video views is mainly related to the expansion of videos on the Seznam.cz homepage, which took place in the last quarter of 2020. These changes led to a significant increase in the number of video views at the Czech internet leader last year, which was almost four times higher compared to 2020. In terms of video views, Seznam.cz has become the strongest operator on the Czech Internet.
According to NetMonitor, Czech News Center (together with Active Radio and Heureka.cz) also posted significant year-on-year increases in the number of videos viewed last year, which grew mainly thanks to Blesk.cz. CNC has thus become the second strongest provider in 2021 in terms of the number of videos viewed. The third strongest was the media group Mafra, driven mainly by iDnes.cz, with a slight gap to FTV Prima. The top five strongest groups by number of video views include Nova.
The measurement of time spent watching online videos gives a different position of domestic operators. According to this indicator, the strongest operator is the FTV Prima group, which, thanks to iPrima.cz, more than doubled the average time spent watching online video last year compared to 2020. A younger target group watched the reality show Like House here. The first episode of the second series had the most video views of any show. The most watched Czech films on iPrima.cz and HbbTV were Chlap na střídačku, Špunti na vodě and Všechno nebo nic.
In terms of time spent watching online video, Prima is twice as far behind the other operators, which are Czech Television and Seznam.cz. The top five in terms of time spent also include CNC and the Nova group.
