One fifth of internet users (20 %) pay to watch videos, TV series and movies on the Czech internet. 6 % pay for news and access to electronic versions of newspapers and magazines and 10 % for listening to music. This is according to new statistics from the professional internet association SPIR Czechs Online 2022. Last year, for example, 26 % of the internet population had to pay for series, videos and TV.
Shopping is the most common activity of Czechs online, with 84 % of the internet population doing so, according to SPIR data. This is followed by watching news (80 %) and using apps like WhatsApp or Messenger (76 %). Social networks are used by 69 % of Czech internet users.
The new statistics also show that the most viewed content category on the Czech internet is news, followed by HP signposts and databases and catalogues. The average time spent on the Internet per week is 16.7 hours.
Overall, 85 % of Czechs over the age of 10 use the Internet. The size of the internet population is 8.1 million people and has increased by almost 20 % since 2015.
