USERS OF STREAMING SERVICES IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC INCREASED, NETFLIX LEADS
13. 2. 202413. 2. 2024The number of Czechs with access to streaming video services increased by about 100,000 to 2.6 million people last year. Netflix still has the largest share, but other major players on the Czech market include HBO Max, SkyShowtime and Disney+, as well as home services Voyo and prima+. This is according to an analysis by distribution company Axocom.
"Netflix is the biggest on the market. This has been helped by restrictions on password sharing. Overall, despite this measure, Czechs continue to share passwords in large numbers, especially for other services. There, the numbers of users vary and spill over, mostly depending on marketing promotions and offers," said Axocom CEO Erika Luzsicza.
While Netflix and other foreign services do not disclose user numbers, the Voyo platform had 650,000 subscribers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia at the end of last year, according to Nova TV, and Prima+ reached 125,000 subscribers a year after its launch, with a total of one million people using the service.
"The first year of Prima+'s operation exceeded our expectations in terms of the number of registered users and subscribers. We believe that this year will be similarly successful, which is why we are preparing a whole range of premium local content that is key for our users, and we would like to significantly expand our offer in this respect," said Josef Beneš, VOD director of the Prima Group.
According to Axocom, Czechs are sensitive to the price of subscriptions. If the service became more expensive or limited password sharing, up to a third would consider cancelling it or switching to a competing offer.
