Media group Nova expects its online video library Voyo to reach one million subscribers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia in the first half of next year.
Media group Nova expects to reach the milestone of one million subscribers in the Czech Republic and Slovakia with its Voyo online video library by the end of the first half of next year. This was stated by its CEO Daniel Grunt at the Nova conference on the autumn programming schedule. At the end of June this year, he said, more than 850,000 customers subscribed to the service, eighty to eighty-five percent of whom are self-subscribers and the rest are those who use the service via pay TV.
Grunt praised Voyo's success not only with viewers but also with film critics. This year, for example, Matematika zločinu turned into a nominee for the Český lev award and took home the glass statuette from the awards in the best TV film or miniseries category. The most recent Voyo Original is the crime series Metoda Markovič: Hojer, which won an international award at the Serial Killer festival. Nova understandably follows the trend of the development of artificial intelligence and also its involvement in the recommendation algorithm of video theatres. But it doesn't want to rely on it 100%, it only takes it as a supplement. The human factor of the editorial team should have the final say. "We are constantly improving the Voyo platform. A lot of work is being done on the stability of the service. We are strengthening the servers and the architecture itself. It's different when we had 150,000 customers on the platform in 2021 and now we have almost 900,000. It's good that viewers don't see this, because if they did, something would be wrong," Grunt told MediaGuru.
In the future, Nova does not rule out introducing a separate sports offer for its subscribers in the Czech Republic, similar to Slovakia. "In Slovakia, Voyo Maximum is basically a sports extension of the classic Voyo, meaning that we add to the classic Voyo an ultimate Voyo offer where we have all the sports channels Nova Sport 1 to Nova Sport 6 and sports broadcasts that we have the rights to and that don't fit into these programmes. It also includes Canal+ Sport. In Slovakia we want to test how the offer works this year, in the Czech Republic we will consider it for next year," Grunt said.
