According to DATART, the arrival of Oneplay could also be a boost to demand. Given the boom in streaming services and online content in recent years, it would seem that the time when television was the focal point of every Czech household is long over. However, statistics suggest quite the opposite. They show that Czechs bought 606,000 TV sets last year.
"Most of us have been used to watching audiovisual content on TV since we were young. Although many of them are gradually moving away from traditional TV broadcasting towards streaming and online content, they remain loyal to the TV itself. Moreover, it turns out that the boom of streaming services is strengthening the demand for new smart TVs, on which content can be streamed without the need for set-top boxes or other additional devices," explained Michal Novák, product manager of consumer electronics at DATART.
The trend of replacing older devices with new smart TVs is expected to continue. According to the latest data from the Czech Statistical Office (CSO) from last year, only about half of Czech households have a smart TV (48.4%). Moreover, according to Michal Novák, further growth in interest in TVs can be expected in connection with the upcoming launch of the new Oneplay platform, which will combine the benefits and content of Voyo with the O2 TV service.
"We expect that the launch of Oneplay will also affect TV sales, especially with regard to the issue of compatibility, which is key for customers," Novák pointed out. "The good news for owners of older TVs is that buying a new TV is certainly an interesting challenge, but not the only option. If people don't want to invest in a new smart TV because of streaming, they can, for example, get a multimedia centre for a few thousand, which will open up the world of streaming even on older TVs. They can also use a set-top box directly from the operator."
High definition smart TVs dominate sales
In terms of consumer trends, DATART says the most noticeable thing in the TV segment is the growing popularity of smart TVs, which allow easy access to online content and apps. The retailer is also seeing rising interest in models with advanced OLED and QLED technologies. Along with this, it is also seeing increased demand for larger diagonal sizes.
"In recent years, we have seen a rapid pace of innovation that has made technology increasingly affordable. A great example is MiniLED backlighting, which a few years ago was only available in premium TVs. Today, you can find it in many models on offer," explained Michal Novák. "At the same time, in view of technological developments and customer requirements, we are expanding our range to include televisions that offer not only superior picture quality, but also long-term compatibility with the latest services."
Another major factor influencing the domestic market is the rise of Chinese manufacturers such as TCL and Hisense. They have been successfully competing with traditional brands such as Samsung and LG in recent years. DATART statistics confirm that Czech customers are increasingly looking for models combining innovative technologies with attractive pricing.
