WHAT THE MIGRATION OF O2 TV TO ONEPLAY LOOKS LIKE IN PRACTICE

14. 4. 202514. 4. 2025
O2 Czech Republic is currently implementing the most important part of the Oneplay brand rollout - the transfer of former O2 TV customers to the new service. What is the experience in practice?

At the end of February this year, journalists were introduced to the Oneplay platform, which has been in preparation for several years and combines the existing O2 TV service and the Voyo.cz video library. While customers of the original Voyo were transferred to Oneplay almost immediately - right from 10 March, O2 TV clients have to wait their turn due to a more complicated process. The migration is taking place in waves. I witnessed the process myself as a customer directly on 11 April.

I received the first email from O2 about O2 TV becoming Oneplay on Monday 10 March, but only with general information. This was followed a day later by a detailed message, accompanied by a text message to my mobile number. While I was able to log into Oneplay immediately, I was clearly informed in the Settings section that this was a temporary situation. The final status therefore occurred exactly one month later and I was informed of it by both contacts that O2 CZ had for me. Some of the details were then also contained in the bill, which in my case arrived on 6 April.

Migration with O2 TV Gold Voyo package

With regard to monitoring for editorial purposes, I have so far been using the top-of-the-range O2 TV Zlatá offering, supplemented by the Voyo.cz video library and Rodinné sledování. The operator has informed me that it will transfer me to the Oneplay Maximum tariff and for 200 crowns/month the premium channels HBO and Cinemax will be added to it + the Max video library (in the Standard tariff). The latter option became unnecessary for me, so I asked the operator to deactivate it, as I have this online platform available directly with the option of watching content in Ultra HD, Dolby Vision, etc.

In a migration email on Friday 11 April, the O2 operator asked me to install the Oneplay app on my TV and uninstall the original O2 TV. Both service settings and recordings should be transferred to Oneplay. It should be pointed out that I don't use the service on a set-top box, but in two versions - on a LG OLED TV from 2019 (running WebOS) and on an nVidia Shield Pro media centre from the same period, running Android TV for a change. I could still theoretically try Oneplay on Apple TV 4K, but I prefer to attach the following video.

What happened to the original O2 TV app

The original O2 TV app hasn't stopped working yet, but it continues to be available on a very limited basis for already migrated customers. After launching, the menu and the service itself came up, but there was no more content to play. Instead of a full menu, there was only a single new programme position waiting for me - Infokanal O2 TV. The migration was then further supported by a special "For You" tile informing about the availability of content in Oneplay. One item, however, remains functional, and that's the (paid) Videotéka, which you won't find in the new service anymore. I assume this is due to the ongoing migration of O2 TV customers in waves, and therefore the necessary availability of the section for non-migrated clients.

On the main page, at first glance, the tiles with the unboxed shows have remained, but when trying to play any of them I have already been notified that I am still trying to play an unboxed one and have to make a purchase. This bit of confusing information only underlined the fact that the customer really has to turn on the new Oneplay app in this case. When trying to discover the available content in the Sport section, the customer only navigates through a looping carousel of tiles, the Children's and Premium sections are already completely devoid of content, or more or less replicate the look of the home screen.

Oneplay app after migration

I was pleasantly surprised by the Oneplay app itself, as I really didn't have to do anything at all. Considering that I had already prepared for the impending migration by entering my login details for this service a few weeks before and was thus in the "temporary promo" phase (including the HBO and Cinemax channels), the only change for me now is that I no longer have Family Viewing available (which requires an additional 99 crowns) and instead see it here with a red dot (i.e. the inactive HBO Max).

With regard to the final form of the service, I can already see adult channels among the TV channels and also stations with audio description on presets 200 to 207, on the contrary, I searched in vain in the EPG for the channels Oneplay Sport MD (in the past O2 TV Sport), but this, I assume, is not a mistake and they will be active only when the multidimension is active, i.e. at the moment of broadcasting the actual sports broadcasts. Considering that the original account for Voyo.cz has now expired, the initial message that this is a non-logged-in user appeared quite logically in the nVidia Shield Pro media centre.
