Nova TV Group is going to make changes in its thematic channels. Nova 2 will be renamed to Nova Fun in the autumn and will focus more on content for a younger target group. Nova Action has been repositioned and changed its concept, design and content. This autumn, Nova will present a new station Nova Lady focused on female viewers. Nova Cinema and Nova Gold continue. In addition, Nova introduces new paid sports stations Nova Sport 3 and Nova Sport 4. Nova announced the changes at a press conference on its autumn schedule on Wednesday.
Nova 2 should focus more on young audiences through the transformation to Nova Fun. Its plan is to build on TV series such as Friends, The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men and gradually add other formats. The station’s logo and design will also undergo changes to use colours representing entertainment, well-being and having a party.
Nova Action is going to focus more on male viewers; apart from TV series such as NCIS: New Orleans, it will offer reality shows SAS: Who Dares Wins, Counting Cars or American Pickers.
In the autumn, Nova Group will launch a new station focused on women Nova Lady. Nova has yet to announce specific formats to be shown on this channel but we can expect a mix of Czech and foreign romantic TV series, films or reality shows.
The design and conceptual part was prepared under the umbrella of Red Bee Media, a London-based agency that delivered similar projects for Universal TV, Discovery+, AMC Networks International or BBC.
“We have found out that channels can be positioned to complement each other more and build their reach more quickly,”
said TV Nova’s CEO Jan Vlček, explaining the reasons for the changes to MediaGuru.cz. In his opinion, the introduction of the new channel Nova Lady and repositioning of Nova 2 and Nova Action relates to the open investment policy of the new owner and investments in content development.
The new channel Nova Lady intended for female viewers will complement Nova Gold within Nova’s portfolio. “It is also popular with women but Nova Lady will target the female audience even more significantly. The two channels should be different in terms of content,” he adds.
According to Nova’s CEO, the development on the advertising market is favourable after the spring lockdown.
“Indications are still positive, the market has an appetite and is sold out,”
he says, indicating that a price increase in TV advertising is nearly certain.
