Prima increased its profit after tax to CZK 510 million two years ago, which is nearly a 50% growth year on year. Sales of products and services grew by nearly 8% to CZK 3.5 billion in 2020. These are the results disclosed in the annual report of FTV Prima for 2020, which has been publicly available since this week.
The key source of income is namely the sale of TV advertising (sale of ad time), which accounts for 80% of the total turnover. In the year before last, income from TV ads grew by 7%. Income from sponsoring and online advertising was flat.
“The TV ad market was very turbulent in 2020. After the huge slump in the spring caused by the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, the market saw a gradual recovery in the summer months, and in the second half, the market came close to the 2018 levels. The total decline in the TV ad market is estimated at 3-5%,” shows the annual report of FTV Prima.

Prima’s management considers 2020 to be a successful year despite the challenges arising from the Covid-19-related complications. Apart from increasing its profit, the group also succeeded in growing its audience share, which was 25.11% in the viewer group 15-69 in 2020. The programming strategy of the main Prima channel continued to emphasize its original series production in 2020. The best-performing shows remained series, entertainment and reality shows. The most successful programme was the series Slunečná. Series account for the largest portion of broadcasting on the main Prima channel with a share of 26%.
Its competitor, the Nova group, reported sales of CZK 5.24 billion and a profit of CZK 865 million in 2020.
