The average daily TV viewing time in the Czech Republic exceeded the average daily time in European countries by six minutes. The comparison was published by the ATO.

TV viewing in the Czech Republic in 2023 reached an average daily value of 3 hours and 19 minutes in the target group of people 4+. This surpasses the European average of 3 hours and 13 minutes, as reported in the Glance One TV Year in The World Yearbook for 2023. The domestic Association of Television Organisations (ATO) made the announcement on the occasion of Peoplemeters Day, which falls on 2 June.

The share of delayed viewing in total TV viewing on TV sets is increasing: in 2023 it accounted for 11%. Total viewing of TV shows is further boosted by their viewing via the internet on other devices, which is particularly noticeable among younger target groups, especially 15-24 year olds.

The cross-platform electronic measurement project for content consumption and viewing (PCEM) was launched under the ATO umbrella in 1997. Since 2002, the data has been supplied by Nielsen. The core remains a representative panel of measured households. The panel has tripled in size since 1997 and now stands at 1900 households. A total of 59 daily self-reported television stations are currently included in the ATO measurement. However, the ATO also provides a space to verify TV viewership for new broadcasters, especially small stations in the form of one-off reports from the PCEM project.
