With the creation of the joint platform Oneplay by O2 and TV Nova, the companies' sports offer channels are also being merged and modified. The PPF Group, owner of O2 and TV Nova, will offer a total of 12 of its original sports channels from 10 March. In total, however, the Oneplay offer will include more than 20 sports channels, including others that are not owned by O2 and Nova.
O2's existing two sports channels - O2 TV and O2 TV Football - will be replaced by new stations Oneplay Sport 1, OnePlay Sport 2, OnePlay Sport 3 and OnePlay Sport 4. O2 TV and O2 TV Football will cease broadcasting on 9 March 2025. In addition, O2 still operates Premier Sport 1 and Premier Sport 2. The Nova Group is adding its six channels: Nova Sport 1 to 6.
"We've divided sports evenly across the channels so that they get much more space," Dusan Mendel, TV Nova's sports editor, described at Tuesday's press conference.
"Oneplay Sport will be exclusive sports channels that will only be on the Oneplay platform, while Nova Sporty will be shared by other operators," Marek Kindernay, O2 TV Sport's current channel director, told MediaGuru.cz, adding, "The link between the two sports editorial offices has been in place for a long time and the editorial offices have been working together. O2 TV's editorial team has been primarily dedicated to domestic sports and Nova Sport is focused on foreign sports. The exclusivity of both brands to Oneplay only is a question of future strategy, but at the moment Nova Sporty are long-standing brands distributed for many years."
The optimal mix related to the Oneplay launch has been two years in the making. "Content may spill over from one channel to another and it may understandably happen that we make some sports exclusive, close them to others or, on the contrary, release some on Nova Sport. Our platform is unique in that it has 20 sports channels in it, which no one else on the market offers," Kindernay stated.
