Music television Óčko has ended its satellite broadcasting via Astra satellite at the end of February at the position 23.5 degrees East. Only sister station Óčko Star remains in this distribution, which continues to broadcast uncoded.
With this move, Óčko has significantly limited its availability to viewers using satellite reception. Both channels were only available on Astra in standard definition but uncoded, while the full portfolio of four Óčko music channels is now available in high definition via the Skylink Live TV internet service. This move may indicate a strategic shift towards online platforms that offer better picture quality and at a lower distribution cost.
For viewers preferring satellite reception, Óčko remains available only via Intelsat 10-02 at 0.6°E, which is however considered less attractive. This limitation of distribution may have an impact on the channel's viewership, especially among viewers who do not have access to internet broadcasting or prefer traditional satellite reception. At the same time, this move may be part of a broader strategy of cost optimisation and a focus on digital distribution that is in line with current trends in the media industry.
