Oneplay and TV Nova are preparing a new batch of series: stories based on reality, returns of the creators of Most! and the dark corners of Czech football.

The video platform Oneplay and TV Nova are preparing dozens of new titles of fiction and documentaries, as well as entertainment and reality shows. They announced the upcoming news at a press conference on Thursday. Upcoming titles include the six-part series Monyová, the biographical project Record(wo)man about athlete Zdenka Koubekova, the crime comedy Oddíl B, the football satire Štěstíčku naproti, the second series of Extraktoři, the series Spřízněná duše about women cheated by a marriage fraudster, the football series Slovan Liberec: Zpátky na vrchol and the documentary series Za zavřenými dveřmi.

The streaming service Oneplay has unveiled its upcoming projects for the coming season. Once again, it will rely on strong stories, often inspired by real events or personalities. Alongside this, there are also plans for the return of well-known creators or behind-the-scenes expeditions into Czech sports.

  • Among the most notable new releases will be the six-part Monyová series, which is set to bring a new perspective on the fate of popular writer Simona Monyová. The aim of the new series will not be to look at the murder of the writer herself, but to take a subtle peek under the hood of manipulative, violent human relationships. It is directed by Zuzana Kirchnerová, whose film Karavan was selected for the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival.

  • Another series titled Record(wo)man is also worthy of attention, revisiting the story of athlete Zdena Koubeková, who chose a new path in life after discovering her intersexuality. Writers Hana and Dan Wlodarczyk have continued their work from the Jitřní záře series. Wlodarczyk described the format as "Quality television" that fulfills a social demand and raises topics where viewers want answers. It's not about the tortured story of a wronged athlete or sportsman, but a story where the athlete plays the hand that fate has dealt him.

  • The duo Jan Prušinovský and Petr Kolečko are also back in the game - after years they have joined forces again on Oddíl B, a ten-episode project combining social commentary and comedy, this time from a prison ministry setting. Oddíl B symbolizes the most occupied part of the prison, as it is where those guilty of the least serious offences are placed. Unlike the Most! series, this miniseries is intended to offer more dark undertones, according to Petr Koleček.

  • With both exaggeration and nostalgia, the series will look into the Czech football environment with Štěstíčku naproti, directed by Mark Najbrt. The six-part comedy is set at a time when match results were often produced off the pitch, behind the scenes in club offices.

  • Fans of action and espionage will be treated to a second series of Extraktoři with Jakub Štáfek and Jan Révai. The new series will feature four cases inspired by the real-life activities of Czech intelligence. The script was again co-written by investigative journalist Jaroslav Kmenta, who estimates that up to 80 per cent of the plot is close to the real-life version. Creative producer Lenka Szántó promises to see more spy action and the actual work of the spies. The plot will take place in multiple countries such as Libya, Syria and Lebanon. Viewers can also look forward to more technical gadgets. The aim is to offer viewers "great European filmmaking", which is why the second series has been given a bigger budget.

  • Director Tereza Kopáčová, who is signed to the Studna series, is developing Spřízněná duše, a drama inspired by true stories of women who stood up to a marriage fraudster. It starts as a romantic comedy and ends as a tragic story with a number of ruined lives.

  • Slovan Liberec: Zpátky na vrchol, a series about a professional football club fighting to return to the elite, is also heading to the line-up. The team behind the project is the team that made the Iveta trilogy. "We turn the cameras from the pitch to the stands and show how it should be done properly. We will also offer elements of drama," promised Matěj Podzimek, the scriptwriter and dramaturg. The club's new majority shareholder is Ondřej Kania, who has decided to turn Slovan Liberec into a showcase for Czech football.

  • A documentary series Za zavřenými dveřmi, which will expand on the theme of domestic violence raised by the fiction series Monyová, is also in the pipeline. It will focus on the recurring patterns of toxic relationships in society in the form of true stories. The aim is to break down the taboos and stereotypes that prevail in society around this topic.

  • New episodes of reality shows Extrémní proměny, Love Island, Bachelor Česko, Superstar and a new reality show Farma are also in the pipeline.
