The Radio and Television Broadcasting Council (RRTV) has granted FTV Prima licences to operate the Slovak channels Prima Cool SK and Prima Love SK. They are to be distributed via satellite with a broadcasting range of 16-24 hours per day. The broadcasts are intended for the Slovak territory. It also agreed to rename the existing Prima Plus channel, which Prima operates in Slovakia, to Prima SK.
The Prima Group has confirmed that it will launch the two thematic stations it is targeting in Slovakia later this year. The first of the pair of TV channels to be added to the offers of satellite, cable and IPTV operators in Slovakia will be the Prima Cool SK channel in the first half of the year. The details of the programme line-up, which will be supplemented by selected acquisition titles in addition to its own productions, are yet to be presented to the public by the Prima Group. Along with the launch of the new thematic channel Prima Cool SK, the name of the Prima Plus TV channel will also be changed to Prima SK.
"Our main goal when entering the Slovak television market was to bring the best of the Prima Group's own production to the Slovak audience. This goal has not changed. What has changed significantly in the past period is the increase in the production of original formats of various genres that we bring to the audience. We perceive an interest in this content among Slovak viewers and the new thematic channels will provide a suitable space for it. The content of the new channels for the Slovak market will build on the success of our first thematic channels,"
said Marek Singer, CEO of the Prima Group.
The Prima Plus (or Prima SK) channel, which has been broadcasting in Slovakia since 2017 and is similar to the group's main channel, will add new programming. A comedy series from the Adriatic coast, Lying on the Beach, will appear on the line-up from 1 April. In the next few weeks, the channel will also add adapted licensed entertainment formats Inkognito and Máme rádi Česko. "Since January this year alone, viewers have had the opportunity to watch eight new family, entertainment or crime series to complement other programmes.
"We are pleased to be able to expand our offer in Slovakia with two new channels, and we believe that they will also soon find popularity with viewers,"
added Alex Ruzek, Programme Director of the Prima Group.
Viewers in Slovakia will also have the opportunity to watch CNN Prima News, which, along with other lifestyle and documentary programmes, will be available on the same channel in the operators' offers from 2020.
