The share of Czechs using at least one video-on-demand service will increase to 42 percent next year, up two percentage points from this year. Users of these services have access to 1.5 services on average, and in almost half of the cases they do not pay for them directly, declares Atmedia's survey of more than 4,000 respondents. The most popular video platforms in the country include Netflix, HBO GO/Max, Voyo, Disney+, iPrima or Apple TV+.
In the target group of 15-69 years old, in which the data for the survey was collected, the estimate of number of people who pay for at least one service get close to 3 million.
"Video on demand services have been gaining popularity among Czech viewers in recent years. The global pandemic, when we were all cooped up at home, and watching TV or videos on demand was one of the most common activities we used to spend our free time on,"
said Pavel Müller, Atmedia's marketing director.
Some of the viewers who use pay video-on-demand services watch content on several of them. Fifty-two per cent of users pay for them directly, 12 per cent use them as part of operators' offers and 36 per cent access them through shared accounts, for example within the family, according to the survey.
"Shared accounts in general are a big problem that even Netflix is starting to address as its competition grows and it hits a ceiling as subscribers increase. In fact, in addition to the more than 200 million paying households, another 100 million households have access to Netflix without paying to watch their video content," said Muller
