A sophisticated system of learning by doing from industry leaders requires the courage to give young people the confidence to make mistakes too. Through a wide range of activities, from internships to apprenticeships to specialised study programmes, Nova Group creates opportunities for new generations of creators and professionals.
Nova News Academy: an intensive start in the world of news
One of the key initiatives is the Nova News Academy. Students apply from universities in Prague and the regions, ten of whom attend the week-long Summer School. This is followed by a fortnight of individual work experience directly in the newsroom. Here, students are introduced to the daily workings of the newsroom, learning how to pitch stories, live inputs, stand-ups and polls. They have the opportunity to work alongside editors and familiar faces from TV Nova, giving them invaluable experience and contacts for the future. "The hands-on experience our students gain directly in the newsroom is irreplaceable. They have the opportunity to see how a newsroom like this is created and operates, and can actively participate in its production," says Denisa Kubová, HR Programme Manager.
Professional high school internships: shadowing professionals
Another form of support for young talents are professional internships, during which students look under the hands of the top professionals in the field. They are given specific work tasks and projects, become part of work teams and try their hand at working with TV technology. "Our apprenticeships give students a glimpse behind the scenes of the day-to-day workings of TV positions. Most are interested in internships in the creative department, digital graphics, TV technology department or in post-production. It is an invaluable experience that can guide students towards their future careers," explains Denisa Kubová.
Long-term internships: a deeper insight into the professional world
TV Nova also offers long-term internships aimed at gaining in-depth knowledge and practical experience in a specific field or profession. These internships allow students to get to know a future employer from different angles - from products and services to company culture and shared values of the work team. "Long-term internships are a great opportunity for students to get to know the working environment, to try out working in television and in non-television professions," summarises Denisa Kubová and continues. It's Voyo that attracts young people to us, and in that opportunity they can experience a working regime that is specific in its dynamism and changeability. Our company culture is fair and you can rely on your colleagues here. Young people often appreciate this, as well as the informality and friendliness. When we ask them after a few weeks what surprised them here, we often hear the answer: that you are not a corporation at all!"
CME Content Academy: a unique program for future creators
In cooperation with the Television Institute and TV Markiza, TV Nova has opened a two-year scholarship programme called CME Content Academy in 2022. This programme focuses on various aspects of TV content creation, including scriptwriting, editing, production, directing, TV marketing, data analytics and sustainable filmmaking. Students learn how to lead projects, develop ideas, and execute television shows. "The goal of the CME Content Academy is to prepare students to work in the television industry and provide them with practical skills and experience they can use in their careers. After completing the programme, they have the possibility of long-term cooperation at TV Nova or Markíza," Denisa Kubová introduces the programme.
The program is led by renowned experts in the field of film and television, including Emmy winners, producers and directors such as Radovan Síbrt, Michal Reitler, Erika Hníková and Petr Ostrouchov. Denisa Kubová adds that "students also have the opportunity to take part in a three-month on-site internship on popular shows such as Survivor in the Dominican Republic, Love Island in the Canary Islands or the new reality show The Bachelor in Greece."
In this way, Nova Group is continuously investing in young talent and their development, which not only brings new faces and ideas to television, but also strengthens the entire television industry. "It is not uncommon for a student project to go into development and production. This was the case with a first-year student whose documentary series on the Slovak Davis Cup team will soon be on air," concludes Denisa Kubová.
