On 24 December, Czechs spend over 6 hours watching TV and Christmas Eve is one of the highest TV viewing days of the year.

According to a survey by Atmedia, a trade representative of nearly 30 thematic TV stations, an average of 82% of viewers aged 4 and over have turned on the TV on Christmas Eve in the last three years. And they spent an average of over 6 hours watching it, with the record year in this respect being 2020, when the time reached almost 6.5 hours.
"TV viewing on Christmas Eve far exceeds the annual average. A total of 8 million Czechs turn on the TV and spend 2.5 hours longer watching it than during the year,"

says Pavel Müller, Head of Research & Marketing at Atmedia.

Watching TV on Christmas Eve is a popular activity among all age groups, and the younger generations are no exception. For example, in the past three years, an average of 65% of viewers aged between 15 and 24 turned on the TV and spent over 3.5 hours watching it. Even higher numbers are seen in the 25-34 age group, with 73% of them spending at least part of Christmas Eve in front of their screens and watching almost 5.5 hours of TV. Viewers aged 55-64 then spend the most time there, with an average of over 7 hours.

Thematic TV stations also have high TV viewing figures on Christmas Eve. Last year, for example, over 2.2 million viewers aged 4+ tuned in to at least one of these channels, up 51% on the annual average.
