Interest in watching video content continues to increase significantly, according to Czech Radio.

Ceske Radiokomunikace (CRA) has seen a steady increase in the viewing of video content on its CDN network. The volume of data transferred has increased by 54% year-on-year in the last year. This is a longer-term trend, with year-on-year increases of more than 50% occurring for the third consecutive year. The typical user downloads video content at an average speed of 3.5 Mbps. This is according to CRA statistics.

The supply of OTT services such as video services grew significantly during the covid 19 pandemic and has continued to grow since then. In May, traffic on CRA's CDN network peaked at around 1,400 Gbps. OTT services include watching movies, series or bonus features on PCs, mobile phones or smart TVs.

CRA provides its infrastructure in OTT services to TV groups such as Nova, Prima, Mafra, Economia and Livesport. CRAs also provide streaming for foreign companies, most recently for example streaming the Euro football tournament for ProTV to Romania.

"Video content is the fastest growing category of all services. A large part of the subscription streaming is tied to linear content distributed on DVB-T2 networks," said CRA CEO Miloš Mastník.

Within OTT (over the top) services, CRA provides the CRA Media Cloud product, which includes services from content processing for distribution to the Internet to delivery to the end customer's device, which can be a mobile phone, tablet, but also a DVB-T2 TV receiver. It uses its own video content processing infrastructure as well as its own CDN (content delivery network). The viewer can watch this content not only on mobile phones, tablets and computers, but also via HbbTV (red button) in conjunction with DVB-T2 digital terrestrial broadcasting.
