VIEWERSHIP OF PAID VIDEOS INCREASED BY 700,000 USERS IN A YEAR
27. 11. 202427. 11. 2024Shows on paid streaming channels such as Netflix or Max are watched by 42% of people over 16 in the Czech Republic this year, up seven percentage points from 2023. In total, there are 3.65 million people 16+ and a year-on-year increase of almost 700,000 people. This is according to updated data from the CSI and a study Use of ICT in households and among individuals.
The highest proportion of people watching paid video channels is in the age group 25-34 years (69%), followed by 16-24 years (65%). Among people of different educational backgrounds, the highest proportion was recorded among highly educated (60%).
Overall, according to the CSO, 76% of the Czech population over 16 years of age watches videos on the Internet (including freely accessible ones), which is 6.54 million people. Of those aged 16-24, 99% are watching.
Videos on social networks or the YouTube channel are watched by 68% of the population, which is 5.9 million people over the age of 16.
Less than a third (32%, i.e. 2.8 million people) report watching TV on the internet. Paid TV on the internet, e.g. in the form of iBroadcast CT or non-paid prima+, is used by 40% of people over 16 (3.5 million).
